The acclaimed German violinist Carolin Widmann, a specialist in the contemporary repertoire, will give the Spanish premiere of Learning Self-Modulation, by the young English composer Christian Mason (1984). She will be accompanied by the pianist Simon Lepper. A joint commission by London's Wigmore Hall, Le Louvre in Paris and the CNDM in Madrid, the piece will have its first performance in Spain just three days after its world premier in Paris. In addition to this composition, Widmann will performTres interludios para violín solo (2006) which José María Sánchez-Verdú incorporated into his violin concerto Elogio del Aire(2007), premiered that year by Widmann as well. Along with these works, listeners will have the chance to hear Dikhthas (1979) by Iannis Xenakis, “one character with two natures” as the composer would describe it, and Divertimento, for violin and piano (1934) from the ballet The Fairy's Kiss (1934) by Igor Stravinsky.
