Art and Education

The Museo Reina Sofía’s Education Department organises a conference to debate the contemporary reshaping of the relations between education and art, featuring participation from Mónica Romero and Oriol Fontdevila. In open dialogue with the speakers, we will discuss the friction and hybridisation between the identity of the artist, educator and curator at a time when the rise in notions of “education shift” and “mediation”has problematically displaced the relationships between these roles. Furthermore, we will be initiating a reflection on the formative processes that are necessary for those agents, the social role of education in the arts and educational potential in museums.

This seminar is aimed at all those people who wish to work in mediation or art education, or those with an interest in this field.

Participants

Mónica Romero is an artist, educator and cultural manager. Her work combines artistic practice, teaching, teacher and artist training, social intervention and consultancy in cultural policies. She is currently a professor and researcher at the National University of Colombia.

Oriol Fontdevila is an art critic, researcher and curator. He has developed a number of curatorship and training projects that encompass debates on artistic mediation. He is the coordinator of the Sala d’Art Jove of the Government of Catalonia and is a resident researcher at the Museo Reina Sofía.

This activity is part of the project Transform, funded by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation.
