This interview explores the work of Ângela Ferreira (Maputo, Mozambique, 1958) and the stress it places on the impact of colonialism and post-colonialism in contemporary society. The artist talks about how her investigations include references to film, such as the ethnographic works of film-maker Jean Rouch, and architecture, for instance the utopian projects of Soviet Constructivism or architects such as Jean Prouvé, whom she uses as a starting point to explore the forced amnesia of colonial memory and the rejection of reparation. Furthermore, her sculptural, sound and videographic homages reference the economic, political and cultural history of the African continent as they retrieve the work and imagery of figures such as Peter Blum, Carlos Cardoso, Ingrid Jonker and Miriam Makeba.
