Elly Strik

Ghost, Brides & other Companions

This catalogue offers an in-depth exploration of the interests of Dutch artist Elly Strik, engaging in dialogue with the work of painters such as Francis Bacon, James Ensor, Edvard Munch, Odilon Redon and Francisco de Goya. Her work encompasses complex elements related to the representation of identity and human faces, with each image she works upon manifesting a genealogy of visible memories in accordance with political-visual conventions, allowing her to find and develop a critical iconography that characterises each of her pieces. The publication includes a conversation between the artist and Jean-Christophe Ammann, poems by Ben Okri and a selection of texts on her works.
