Nancy Spero

Dissidances

Nancy Spero was a pioneer of feminist art in the New York art scene in the 1960s and 1970s, in close proximity to other artists such as Martha Rosler and Adrian Piper, and was present in the art world until the Venice Biennale in 2007. The exhibition the catalogue stems from is a retrospective spanning more than fifty years of her practice, with its presentation setting forth a re-evaluation of her work through the show and the texts within analysing aspects such as the philosophical and linguistic dimension of her work or its critical reception and success. It also includes an interview between Spero and art historian Benjamin. H.D. Buchloh.
