Not yet. On the Reinvention of Documentary and the Critique of Modernism

Essays and Documents [1972-1991]

Not Yet. On the Reinvention of Documentary and the Critique of Modernism sets out from the re-discovery of experiences from the Worker Photography movement in the 1920s and 1930s, within the social and intellectual context after 1968 and new urban struggles. The reinvention of documentary formulated by Sekula, Rosler and others represented a critique of hyper-encoded, depoliticised and institutionalised photographic modernism. The publication includes a general text by the curator Jorge Ribalta, a compendium of conversations with figures such as Rosa Casanova, Duncan Forbes, Sarah James and Martha Rosler, among others, and a selection of more than 45 essays and documents published between 1972 and 1991 by different authors.
